When: Aug. 25-31, 5-7 p.m. 2016
Science and art are colliding to create some mind-blowing experiences over the next seven days. As part of the interactive arts nonprofit Laboratory Spokane’s artist-in-residence program, two international artists are showcasing their sound-themed virtual reality installations. British artist/researcher Falk Morawitz has created a compositional work based on the quantum theory that molecules — despite what school taught us — are actually shapeless and “smeared” over space. Audience members can conduct their own “molecular orchestra” in Morawitz’s project, which creates sounds from the measured magnetic frequencies that molecules produce. The second exhibit, “Resound,” by Brooklyn’s Seth Kranzler, lets viewers of virtual environments he’s created place sound-producing objects around a 3-D space, composing their own unique music.
