You've likely noticed that breweries like to celebrate whatever occasion possible. When it comes to birthdays, most beer makers like to go all out.
Believe it or not, Black Label Brewing, the small-scale brewery operating out of the Saranac Commons space on Main Avenue in downtown Spokane, has already put their inaugural year in the books. They're celebrating their first birthday, along with their fellow one-year-old and Saranac neighbor, Common Crumb bakery, on Saturday, Jan. 30. The party gets going at 3 pm and runs until 10 pm. Pints are $3 and you can get a growler filled for just $10.
Also on Saturday, River City Brewing celebrates its third anniversary from 3 to 10 pm, with live music from Folk Inception from 5 to 9 pm and food from Couple of Chefs food truck. The real attraction for local beer fans will be the aged beers River City will roll out of the cellar, including a 2014 stout that's been sitting in a bourbon barrel.
Also on the anniversary front, Daft Badger Brewing in Coeur d'Alene celebrated one year in business last weekend. The brewery continues to release new, small-batch beers every Wednesday. Keep an eye on their Facebook page (facebook.com/daftbadgerbrewing) for updates.
MICKDUFF'S AT CRAFTED
If you're one of the folks who loves MickDuff's Brewing Company's beers, but can't always make it all the way up to Sandpoint to sample their entire lineup, here's a way to work around that. MickDuff's is the featured brewery at Crafted Tap House + Kitchen beginning on Thursday, Jan. 28. There, you'll find some of their hits, as well as newer creations like a bourbon stout, a dunkel and a recently released porter that's brewed with Evans Brothers Coffee.
NO-LI'S NEXT CAN
Following the success it's seen with its Born & Raised IPA in six-packs of cans, No-Li Brewhouse recently announced that they've got another can on the way. In March, the Spokane brewery expects to unveil its Big Juicy IPA, a citrus-minded, 6.1-percent ABV, 55-IBU creation.
MOSCOW BREWING IS FOR SALE
Since opening in 2013, the small-scale Moscow Brewing Company has gathered a loyal following down on the Palouse, and beer drinkers in Moscow must really be hoping that someone takes the reins from brewer and owner Lucas Rate, who recently announced that the business is up for sale. Rate, who is moving out of the area, said in a statement that the brewery is looking for "a weirdo to carry the torch; to take over this wonderful enterprise."
