When: Mon., Feb. 26, 7-8:30 p.m. 2018
As part of Gonzaga University's NEH-funded Telling War program, award-winning poet and novelist Kevin Powers will discuss how writing can be a way to sort complex human experiences like war. Powers, an Iraq Veteran, was a National Book Award finalist for his novel "The Yellow Birds" and has also published a volume of poetry, "Letter Composed During a Lull in the Fighting." The New York Times review of "Yellow Birds" called the novel "a classic of contemporary war fiction," and the Guardian compares it to "Red Badge of Courage." Veterans are especially encouraged to attend this event.
